Chery Automobile Co. has announced plans to launch an all-solid-state battery by 2026, alongside the immediate introduction of the Kunpeng battery brand, featuring ultra-fast 6C charging capabilities.

The company outlined a roadmap for achieving milestones in battery energy density. By the end of the year, Chery expects to reach a density of 400 Wh/kg, followed by an increase to 600 Wh/kg by 2025. The first vehicle application is slated for 2026, with initial batch production beginning in 2027.

The all-solid-state battery is expected to offer a range of up to 1,500 km, drastically increasing the driving distance for EVs. This development could place Chery at the forefront of the next wave of EV innovations.

Chery has also launched the Kunpeng battery brand, featuring three different series: square lithium iron phosphate, square ternary, and large cylindrical ternary batteries. A notable feature of all three is their ability to support 6C charging, allowing for an impressive addition of 400 km of range in just five minutes. The 6C charging capability stems from the C-rate, a measure of how quickly a battery can be charged or discharged.

The Kunpeng brand introduces three battery types, each catering to specific EV needs:

Chery’s new battery technology will start rolling out in its new energy vehicles (NEVs) soon. The company reported selling over 60,000 NEVs in September, with plans to reach 100,000 by the end of the year.

It’s worth noting that Chery is not the only automaker exploring 6C charging technology. SAIC-GM, a joint venture between SAIC Motor and General Motors, recently announced plans to implement 6C batteries starting in 2025.
